The Meininger’s International Craft Beer Awards have been assigned this year already for the sixth time. Meantime it became one of the biggest german brewing competitions. However, it differs from the other competitions in some way.
The beer don’t compete against each other, but the jury assigns points for appearance, aroma, taste and overall impression. Additionally every beer ist assessed in 21 sensoric categories and the results are presented in a spider diagram.
The best 30% of each category’s beers get platinum, gold and silver medals. This way, a multitude of medals are awarded - for instance 197 x gold, 138 x silver und 31 x platinum in the current year. Additionally the best rated beers get a “best of show” award and the most succesfull brewery is honored, too.
